Valuable Journalism can be characterized as a meaningful, enlightening, surprising, empowering, comforting or reassuring experience which optimizes news enjoyment and civic empowerment and can be condensed into three key experiences: “Getting recognition,” “Learning something new” and “Increasing mutual understanding.” It satisfies fundamental human needs of autonomy, inspiration, sense of belonging, competence and social relatedness.(p.12)
